Britney Spears and Sam Asghari Announce Their Engagement on Instagram

After more than four years of dating, Britney Spears and Sam Asghari confirmed their engagement on Sunday. The singer and actor-turned-fitness enthusiast were romantically involved after meeting on the filming of Spears’ 2016 music video for “Slumber Party.”

Spears, 39, and Asghari, 27, announced their engagement on Instagram, and Asghari’s manager Brandon Cohen told PEOPLE he is “proud to celebrate and confirm the engagement.”

“The couple made their long-standing relationship official today and are deeply touched by the support, dedication, and love expressed to them,” Cohen said, adding that New York City jeweler Roman Malayev designed Spears’ new ring.

“He couldn’t be happier to be involved and make this one-of-a-kind ring,” Cohen continued.

Spears, who a source exclusively tells PEOPLE is “ecstatic” about the proposal, showcased her new rock in a beautiful video with Asghari by her side. “Yes!” she responds to Asghari’s question about if she enjoys her new bling.

The singer has endured a year of ups and downs as she fights to be released from her 13-year conservatorship.

In a March interview with Forbes, the Iranian-born actor discussed the start of his relationship with Spears and said he was eager to advance his career and relationship.

“My priorities in life are to remain humble and understand where I came from and where I’m going,” he told Forbes at the time. “I want to take my career to the next step when it comes to acting. I want to take my relationship to the next step, as well. I don’t mind becoming a father. I want to be a young dad.”

A few months later, during her testimony at a conservatorship hearing, the singer stated unequivocally that she desired to marry and have a kid with Asghari, and a friend of the couple told PEOPLE that he, too, was eager to settle down.

“He’s ready for marriage and kids with Britney and is serious about the relationship. She wants to take that next step and have that full life with him,” said the friend. “As a couple, they’ve hidden how they’ve really felt even from people close to them because they were anxious and scared, but now it’s all out there.”

Following the publication of an unauthorized documentary on Hulu about Spears’ life and conservatorship, Asghari told PEOPLE he was “looking forward” to a “normal, amazing future” with the pop star.
