Cristiano Ronaldo Resigns from Manchester United Following Shocking Interview Slamming the Club

Cristiano Ronaldo is leaving Manchester United just days after sparking controversy with a scathing interview slamming the club. The team announced on Tuesday, November 22, that they had reached a mutual decision with the star athlete regarding his future with the English team.

“Cristiano Ronaldo is to leave Manchester United by mutual agreement, with immediate effect,” read a tweet from the club’s official Twitter account. “The club thanks him for his immense contribution across two spells at Old Trafford.”

Ronaldo released a statement of his own on the subject shortly after the bombshell revelation shocked the soccer world.

“Following conversations with Manchester United, we have mutually agreed to end our contract early,” he remarked. “I love Manchester United, and I love the fans; that will never change. However, it feels like the right time to seek a new challenge.”

The shocking move came a few weeks after Ronaldo made headlines for disparaging Manchester United in a controversial interview with Piers Morgan. The soccer player claimed during his interview that, in addition to being fired from the team, manager Erik ten Hag had shown him little respect and that club officials had acted callously after the death of his infant son earlier this spring.

The athlete confessed during the interview, “I have no respect for him [ten Hag] because he does not show respect for me,” and added that he felt ‘betrayed’ by the team.

“Some people, they do not want me here — not only the coach but the other two or three guys,” Ronaldo added. “Not only this year but last year too.”

When Ronaldo returned to Manchester United in 2021, he had previously played for Real Madrid and Juventus in the late 2000s and early 2000s. Ronaldo previously played for Manchester United from 2003 to 2009. He is currently Portugal’s team captain during the World Cup in Qatar. On Thursday, November 24, the football star’s team will play Ghana in their first game of the tournament.
