In 2023, Samsung announced the development of LLW (Low Latency Wide IO) DRAM and it is mainly used for AI applications and gaming on smartphones. After a brief recall in October, the South Korean giant today returned to talk about its LLW chip through a video published on X by its semiconductor division.
Samsung LLW DRAM solution to support artificial intelligence
As per the official information, Samsung’s LLW solution sits next to the CPU to ensure lower latency, however, it appears that the LLW chips will work alongside the CPU rather than replacing traditional DRAM entirely.
At this point it is legitimate to wonder if the next range of Samsung Galaxy S24 smartphones will adopt this solution, but the company has not revealed anything about it.
Samsung is already preparing new AI-powered features for its next series of flagship smartphones and it is likely that the company will present the new devices as AI-enabled, similar to how Google presented the Pixel 8 Pro , for example example.
A special type of DRAM that increases bandwidth and latency limits, Low Latency Wide IO (#LLW) is significantly more efficient in processing real-time data than #LPDDR, making it perfect for mobile #AI and #Gaming applications. Learn more.https://t.co/ONb8wHwnTv pic.twitter.com/nra2v9OUpc

The Samsung Galaxy S24 range could act as a launch pad for LLW DRAM, but we’ll have to wait until early 2024 to find out.
Samsung will launch the new Galaxy S24 models on January 17 in San Jose, California.
Galaxy S24 Storage Info
According to the reliable tipster Ice Universe (@UniverseIce), the base Galaxy S24 will get only 8GB RAM, with no option to upgrade memory with pricier variants. The Galaxy S24+, though, will have a variant with 12GB RAM, but its entry-level version will still use 8GB RAM. The rumor also claims that the Galaxy S24 Ultra will still come with 8GB RAM in entry-level model and 12GB RAM in higher-specced mode.
