Google has started the rollout of real-time location sharing by Google Maps within Google Contacts. This is yet another innovation that brings together the various Big G services, which are now less and less “separated” on Android.
Google Contacts and Google Maps update related to location sharing
At the end of May, the first indications of real-time sharing began to appear within Google Contacts, along with other changes on a design level, but these days it seems that the distribution is reaching several users. Starting from version 4.22.37.586680692 of the application, you may find this new function which integrates the possible sharing of the location of a contact, obviously in if the latter has activated it.
Below the various options for calling, texting, emailing, and so on, you may find a Google Maps section that shows your last shared location and the ability to open the map to view it. In the latter case you could also get directions on how to reach the location, or even set notifications that warn you when the contact arrives nearby.
Starting location sharing on Google Maps is really simple: all you have to do is open the app and opt for “Location sharing” in the section that opens by pressing on the profile image at the top right. Here you can choose how long to do it and with which contacts.
