Google has decided to invest more in the longevity of its devices, both for a new awareness of environmental issues (and the consequent production of electronic waste) or for a mere marketing strategy, it doesn’t matter, what makes users happy is being able to extend the life of their Pixel smartphone.
This aspect goes through various efforts made by the company, starting from the new support for Pixel 8 series devices extended to seven years, through to the new Repair mode included in Android 14, up to the new Pixel Diagnostics app and DIY repairs. Let’s take stock of the situation together.
The new Pixel Diagnostics app allows you to test the functioning of your smartphone
As anticipated at the beginning, we have seen how with the latest feature drop at the beginning of the month Google has introduced a new Repair mode on Pixel smartphones (Repair Mode), the purpose of this new function is to protect user privacy and at the same time prevent access to personal data when the smartphone is sent for repair.
Google does not stop here however, in the last few hours it has in fact announced the availability of a new application and new manuals dedicated to repairs, updated and easy to consult.
Thanks to the Pixel Diagnostics app, users can now test the operation of their device before or after a repair, so as to check which component may have problems and be sure later that it has been repaired or replaced.
As you can see from the images in the gallery, the new application dedicated to the diagnostics of Pixel smartphones would currently only be available in the United States, we use the conditional because it is sufficient to change the system language of the smartphone, from Italian to English (United States) to be able to access it and use it safely.
The new software allows users to carry out a whole series of checks on different components of the smartphone, something very similar to other methods already implemented by various smartphone manufacturers. To access the new Pixel Diagnostics app you must first make sure that the device is connected to a wifi network, secondly by going to the phone app you will simply need to type the following code into the numeric keypad: *#*#7287#*#*.
