Google Messages is now expected to bring the edit feature a message after you send it. References to this feature first appeared in a beta version of the app in November, but new code snippets recently spotted in the app suggest that the Mountain View giant is working on the feature.
There are reportedly four flags that appear to refer to the functionality of editing sent messages. The first flag indicates enabling an editing UI for a message, and the second flag is for loading the message editing history from the message database.
The third appears to be about processing the modified message, while the fourth flag indicates processing of the modified message for the user who is receiving it.
Google Messages may allow you to edit sent messages
The ability to edit sent messages is becoming more common in other messaging apps. Apple added the option for iMessage last year with iOS 16, and WhatsApp released a similar feature earlier this year, albeit within a limited time in both cases.
Both iMessage and WhatsApp also allow you to delete messages after they’ve been sent, but that doesn’t appear to be the case for Google Messages, at least for now.
