Google has released the December 2023 Feature Drop update for compatible Pixels. As per the update changelog, the all-new firmware comes with the build number Android 14 QPR1.
During the beta phase of this latest version we have already had the opportunity to discover the news regarding the weather and the Clock app, and in these hours the Mountain View company has published the Weather app for Pixels on the Google Play Store.
The Weather app for Pixels arrives on the Google Play Store
In recent months we have seen the integration of the weather service at the system level, available exclusively for users with a Google Pixel 8 or Pixel 8 Pro and for users with the Android 14 QPR1 beta. For some time now,
Google Clock has gained a weather service within the app, designed to show the current conditions of the place we are in, as well as the maximum and minimum temperatures of the day.
Furthermore, it is possible to set up an alarm clock that shows the weather forecast and provides an overview of the day’s weather conditions. In these hours, in conjunction with the release of the new Feature Drop of Android 14, Google has published the integrated and customized Weather app for Pixels on the Play Store.
Google will be able to update the service more easily and quickly on compatible Google Pixels. The app should be available on the Play Store for all the latest smartphones in the Pixel range, including obviously the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro.
Gmail notification icons on Android are no longer red
In mid-2023 Google updated Gmail for Android so that the notification icon is no longer red. After version 2023.11.26.x, Gmail’s notification icon no longer has a red background.
However, instead of Dynamic Color theming being leveraged to match your device’s wallpaper, a generic light blue circle is used.
Official Statement
Google runs a core message processing system that is responsible for delivering, monitoring, queuing, and receiving email messages. The root cause of both incidents was an atypical pattern of email traffic, resulting in high resource utilization in this system and delays in email delivery.
Google explains how to use Video Boost
Google has officially confirmed that Video Boost is rolling out “beginning December 7” to the Pixel 8 Pro. This feature “boosts” lighting, colors, and details in your videos. You have to enable Video Boost ahead of time from the Video Settings panel (swipe up or tap the bottom-left corner).
After toggling on, a Video Boost icon will appear in the top-left corner of the viewfinder. The Pixel Camera app will also prompt you to enable it “when the scene is dark enough.”
