The latest update from Google Weather is exclusive to Google Pixel devices and introduces a new user interface. This appears to be about to change, as some Pixel users recently noticed a new “Weather” shortcut in the app launcher.
Is Google’s weather service about to become a standalone app?
The new “Weather” shortcut has appeared in the app drawer with a circular icon depicting the sun and a cloud, but the icon seems a little too small, probably because it’s a sketchy version of the app. The same icon is shown on the home screen if you decide to add it, however it is marked with the miniaturized Google App logo.
Tapping the icon or shortcut opens the new Weather experience, while a long press takes you to the About app menu and Google Search widgets . The weather app icon has been noticed on some Google Pixel devices running Android 14 (not QPR1).
Such an approach allows us to hope that in the future Google ‘s weather service will become an independent app with all the advantages of the case, such as receiving updates and new features more frequently and not just with Google App updates.
