Pop star Justin Bieber, 27, received the Moon Man trophy for Best Pop Song for his breakout song, Peaches, during one of 2021 MTV Video Music Awards’ first honors at New York City’s Barclays Center.

As music legend Cyndi Lauper announced Justin’s name for the award, he smiled and rushed from his seat, turning his back on his wife. The singer then went to the stage with collaborator Giveon and thanked several people but did not mention Hailey. The latter sat in the audience, cheering for him.

Justin began, “Shout out to my little brother and sister Jazzy and Jackson.”

He continued, “Shoutout to my mom and dad, Faye, Ash, my grandparents, my fans, thank you guys so much,” before exiting the stage.

Fans quickly pointed out the snub, with many criticizing the artist for the “rude” move.

“Justin Bieber not looking at Hailey when he won, and then no shoutout physically caused me pain,” one person stated.

Another tweet said, “Hailey is supporting Justin Bieber, and he didn’t shout out to her or giving her any attention when he won, rude.”

“Justin not even hugging or kissing Hailey after winning AND him shouting out absolutely everyone but his wife,” a third reaction said.

“Per the theory for Justin Bieber disliking his wife, during his VMA acceptance speech just now, he thanked everyone but did not thank Hailey,” another speculated. “Big yikes.”

Later that evening, Justin received another award for Artist Of The Year and appeared to be aware of the criticism, as he kissed his wife right before going on stage.

He made a point of thanking her in his remarks, saying, “We are in unprecedented times with this Covid thing. It’s a big deal. Music is such an amazing outlet in order to reach people and bring people together. That’s why we’re all here together.”

“We have a lot more in common than we don’t. Thank you guys so much. I look over here. And I see my beautiful wife, and I just want to say ‘thank you so much’,” he ended his speech.

Justin and Hailey became engaged in July 2018 and married in New York later that year, following years of on-again, off-again dating. They then married in a spectacular wedding attended by a slew of celebrities in South Carolina in 2019.
