Google’s Pixel Call Assist comes out as a unique phone feature offered by the Pixel phone maker, and the company undergoing active beta testing for new Call Screen capabilities.
Although the beta testing for these features is recently started. The Call Screen beta includes two key aspects, the first being an “update to the settings UI” and the second one is the “Protection level” options that have been progressively made available to a wider audience since that time.
- Maximum: Screen unknown numbers and decline spam.
- Medium: Screen suspicious calls and decline spam.
- Basic: Decline only known spam.
Meanwhile, the big change to Pixel Call Screen as part of this beta is a “more natural sounding series of voice prompts to determine who’s calling and why.”
According to the information, Google is now testing (via 9To5Google) this feature with the Pixel 6 owners and newer devices in the US. Tensor is clearly required, and this suggests that on-device AI is being leveraged. The goal is to “enhance our Call Screen capabilities and reduce robocalls, giving you time back and peace of mind.”
What is Call Screen?
Google Call Screen is a default feature that can be used for answering phone calls. Google first announced this feature with the Pixel 3 in 2018 and is now available on all Pixel devices. Before the phone rings, the feature analyzes phone numbers to determine if they’re spam and declines them for you if they suspect it’s a robocall or a telemarketer. The robocall and spam screening feature is much more robust than Google’s normal spam database.
How to access Call Screen settings
- Launch the Google Phone app.
- Tap the three dots in the upper-right corner.
- Tap Settings.
- Go to the Spam and Call Screen option.
- Enable See caller and spam ID.
- Open Call Screen to access the settings.
