Taylor Swift: How She Became a Great Artist of the Decade?

Everyone knows about the legendary singer-songwriter Taylor Alison Swift, from her sold-out albums, ticket concerts, and even top-chart songs.

Taylor Swift’s ‘Wildest Dreams’

The legendary artist was born in Pennsylvania on December 13, 1989. Her father, Scott Swift, is a stockbroker; her mother, Andrea Swift, is a homemaker who used to work as a fund marketing executive. She has a brother, Austin, who is an actor.

Since Swift was a child, she has been passionate about making music. She took vocal and acting lessons in New York City at 9. That’s when she was inspired by Shania Twain and Faith Hill and found her genre, country music. Swift learned to play guitar when Ronnie Cremer, a computer repairman, taught her, leading her to write her first song. Her family moved to Nashville when she reached 14 to support her passion and dream, where Taylor attended her high school but eventually transferred to Aaron Academy and enrolled in homeschooling to manage her time better touring for her music career.

She continued her love of music and started working with songwriter Liz Rose during two-hour writing sessions every Tuesday afternoon after school. Then, when the young star was performing in Nashville’s Bluebird Cafe in 2005, she caught the attention of Scott Borchetta, a record executive forming an independent record label, Big Machine Records. She signed a contract under the label as one of its first artists.

‘All too well’ in her career

Swift asked her label company, Big Machine, to hire Nathan Chapman to produce her songs. Her debut album, ‘Tim McGraw’ was released in June 2006, and her self-titled album was released in 2006. It reached number 5 on the U.S. Billboard 200 and released another four singles from her debut album, all of which were included in Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart.

Her next known album is ‘Fearless,’ which was released on November 11, 2008. Its lead single ‘Love Story,’ peaked at number 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and number 1 in Australia. Another single, ‘You Belong With Me,’ peaked at number 2 in the U.S. When the was album released, it peaked at number one on Billboard in the U.S. Her stardom continued to rise as she started collaborations and co-wrote songs with artists such as John Mayer, Boys Like Girls, and many more.

The singer-songwriter was unstoppable when her third album, ‘Speak Now’ was released on October 25, 2010. Her song ‘Mine’ became number three on Billboard. She wrote all the tracks in this album and co-produced these to prove that she could write her songs. The same with her previous album, millions of copies were sold in just a week.

Swift is not yet contented as her song ‘We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together,’ again became number one an hour after it was released in the U.S. and New Zealand chart and even in iTunes, a digital song sales chart. The song is one of the tracks in her new album, ‘Red,’ which was released in 2012.

The country singer shifted her genre to pop when she released her ‘1989’ album in 2014. She did not fail her fans; many supported her, and album sales continued to soar. The album’s tracks ‘Shake It Off,’ ‘Blank Space,’ and ‘Bad Blood’ also became number one in Australia, Canada, and the U.S. charts.

Taylor Swift took hiatus from the public eye for over three years but made a big comeback when she released her ‘Reputation’ album in late 2017. Again, this is a massive comeback as her song, ‘Look What You Made Me Do’ broke the record as it received millions of views within a day and reached number one on Billboard.

A year later, Taylor Swift was inspired to release her new album under Universal Music Group, and the Republic Records imprint would promote her subsequent albums. However, there was a condition that she would maintain ownership of her recordings. Her album ‘Lover’ was released in mid-2019. All of the songs under the album were included on Billboard in the same week. She was the first woman artist to break this record.

When Covid 19 pandemic affected the world, Swift released two albums within a year, Folklore and Evermore, in 2020. She also started re-recording her six albums under Big Machine and even never before heard songs that were not included in these albums. Her re-recorded song, ‘Fearless,’ reached the top spot on Billboard.

In 2022, Taylor Swift shocked many music enthusiasts when most of the tracks in her recently released album, ‘Midnight,’ claimed all of the top ten on Billboard. In addition, her song ‘Anti-Hero’ became number one in the chart.

Every award is always ‘Today Was A Fairytale’

Since she debuted as a singer, the iconic Taylor Swift bagged many awards from Broadcast Music, Inc Awards, the Country Music Association Awards, the Annual Academy of Country Music, the American Music Awards, and the Grammy Awards. Taylor Swift is known for making songs related to her past and current relationships. Here is a short timeline of her own love story:

Swift also had a short date with Lucas Till in 2009, but they realized it was better for them to stay friends. The same year, Taylor/Taylor duo happened in 2009, but it ended in December when Swift dumped him. She also dated the singer John Meyer and collaborated to create songs, but the same with her previous relationships lasted only a short time.

Her relationship with Jake Gyllenhaal is one of Taylor’s known relationships. However, the couple called it quits due to their 10-year age gap. Opposite to her relationship with Gyllenhaal, she dated someone younger than her, Conor Kennedy, Robert F. Kennedy’s grandson. They broke up when the issue of crashing his cousin’s wedding surfaced. Again, Taylor was seen dating Harry Styles in Central Park and Times Square on New Year’s Eve. Their relationship only lasted for a month. She also dated Calvin Harris and was seen on red carpets together, but Calvin dumped the singer. The singer also shocked her fans when she dated Tom Hiddleston but eventually called it quits two months after Tom was photographed wearing an ‘I Heart T.S.’ shirt. In 2017, she dated her long-time beau Joe Alwyn. The couple kept their relationship since their romance started.

‘Bad blood’ and controversies

Apart from her dating issues, she also had problems with other artists like Katy Perry, Kanya West, the Kardashians, and many more.
