Hurricane Ida Left ‘Catastrophic Damage’ in Louisiana with 1 Million Homes Without Power

On Sunday, Hurricane Ida made landfall as a Category 4 storm in southeast Louisiana, and federal officials reported “catastrophic” devastation in certain areas. By early Sunday evening, Ida had fallen to a Category 3 hurricane with sustained gusts of 125 mph, but authorities indicated it will remain a hurricane and move inland into Monday afternoon.

The National Hurricane Center said that Ida made landfall over Port Fourchon, Louisiana, at approximately 11:55 a.m. CT. President Joe Biden stated that he signed disaster declarations to ensure Mississippi and Louisiana have “full access to the federal government’s resources and help.” Due to the cancellation of all Sunday flights in New Orleans, tens of thousands left by cars, blocking highways. The government has warned residents who do not evacuate to be prepared to fend for themselves for 72 hours without assistance.

By Monday, Hurricane Ida was downgraded to a tropical storm after slamming into Louisiana and knocking out electricity to over 1 million homes and businesses, including the city of New Orleans.

Authorities said that at least one person, a 60-year-old male, died in Ascension Parish after a tree collapsed on his residence.

In Louisiana, electric providers reported that little more than a million households and businesses were without power, while another 100,000 were without electricity in Mississippi.

Entergy New Orleans, the city’s primary power utility with roughly 200,000 customers, reported that the whole city lost power early Sunday evening due to “catastrophic damage” to its transmission infrastructure.

The company tweeted Monday that it “will almost certainly take days to assess the amount of damage to our power grid in metro New Orleans and much longer to restore electricity transmission to the region.”

According to the National Hurricane Center, the strong winds, heavy rains, and storm surge “had resulted in devastating consequences along Louisiana’s southeast coast.”

Local officials were preparing to examine the damage early Monday as the sun rose, and teams prepared to go out to check on those who had requested rescue throughout the night. Cynthia Lee Sheng, president of Jefferson Parish, told NBC’s “TODAY” that approximately 250 demands for assistance came in overnight.

“We are ending what was a terrifying night for many individuals waiting for their rescue,” she said. “Today is the day we are going to see the damage.”

She stated that levees in the Lafitte area had been topped but did not sustain structural damage.

Evan Rachel Wood Gives Her Alleged Abuser, Marilyn Manson, the Finger During a Live Performance

The three-time Golden Globe nominee, Evan Rachel Wood, 33, suggestively called out her abuser Marilyn Manson while singing a cover of the New Radicals’ 1998 track “You Get What You Give” with her musical partner Zane Carney (of Evan + Zane) at Los Angeles’ Bourbon Room on Saturday.

“I’ve been saving this, but it seems like the appropriate time,” she said as she introduced the song, which features a reference to Manson, 52. Wood raised her middle finger as she sung his name, which elicited shouts from the crowd.

After initially disclosing in 2016 that she had been sexually attacked by a “significant other” and later speaking in support of numerous pieces of legislation protecting sexual assault survivors, Wood identified Manson as her abuser in February.

“The name of my abuser is Brian Warner, also known to the world as Marilyn Manson,” Wood wrote at the time. “He started grooming me when I was a teenager and horrifically abused me for years. I was brainwashed and manipulated into submission. I am done living in fear of retaliation, slander, or blackmail.”

“I am here to expose this dangerous man and call out the many industries that have enabled him before he ruins any more lives. I stand with the many victims who will no longer be silent.”

She is one of at least 15 female accusers of sexual assault against Manson. Manson has repeatedly disputed the charges, describing them as “horrible distortions of reality.”

“My intimate relationships have always been entirely consensual with like-minded partners. Regardless of how — and why — others are now choosing to misrepresent the past, that is the truth,” Manson continued.

Wood’s performance comes in the wake of anger directed at Kanye West for bringing Marilyn Manson onstage during Thursday’s listening session for his tenth studio album Donda, which was released Sunday.

“For my fellow survivors who got slapped in the face this week. I love you. Don’t give up,” she captioned Sunday’s post.

On her Instagram Story, Wood also made a direct reference to Manson’s collaboration with West. “Triggered, re-traumatized, and unsafe,” she wrote.

According to sources, West, 44, sought to stir up controversy by inviting onstage the Antichrist Superstar musician and DaBaby, who recently received outrage for homophobic remarks.

“He knows that having controversial figures around will be provocative and will get people talking,” a source told PEOPLE.

Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker Want to Live Together But His Ex-Wife Does Not Want Their Children to Move in with Kourtney

“Kourtney and Travis are loved up, but what’s causing a headache is the plans to combine the two families,” according to an insider who told The Sun.

Drummer Travis Barker, 45, and Model ex-wife Shanna Moakler, 46, had divorced in 2008. Together, they are parents to son Landon, 17, and daughter Alabama, 15.

“Right now, Kourtney and Travis live minutes away from each other, but they want to move in together to start a new chapter, and that means all their kids need to be involved in the plan too.”

However, the insider added that “His ex-wife is really stirring things up and making it difficult. When he’s not with his kids, Travis spends all his time at Kourt’s – and he more or less lives there.”

“Kourt wants Travis to be step-dad to her kids, and her to his – their kids are all building relationships – but his ex is being difficult over plans to combine to form a household,” according to the source.

“Apparently, Shanna doesn’t think it’s good for her kids to have to be uprooted and move into Kourtney’s.”

“My children can live wherever they are happiest. I have no opinion on this whatsoever.” Shanna said to The Sun.

Kourtney and ex-husband Scott Disick share kids Mason, 11, Reign, six, and daughter Penelope, nine.

While Kourtney and Travis have been pretty candid about their feelings for one another during their relationship, Shanna has been eager to give her perspective.

She told People in a previous interview, “I’m very much over my ex. It’s been a long time. However, do I think some of the PDA that he’s doing with her is weird? The movie, True Romance, that I feel like they’ve been bonding over, was the theme of our wedding. Our daughter’s named after the character in the movie.”

While Shanna does not appear to want Landon and Alabama to live with Kourtney, her connection with her children may be strained.

According to Alabama’s Instagram post, the two adolescents allegedly claimed Shanna was an absentee mom.

“My mom has never completely been in my life. Can you guys stop painting her out to be an amazing mom? Did your moms ask to see you on Mother’s Day [because] mine didn’t? I’m done keeping it a secret, reality shows,” she wrote.

Recently, Kourtney and Travis are rumored to be engaged.

Justin Bieber is Now the Most-Streamed Artist on Spotify History

The audience has spoken, and Justin Bieber appears to be the undisputed king of Spotify music streaming. The artist surpassed Ariana Grande’s previous record on Spotify.

The 27-year-old singer, according to TMZ, now has the most monthly users on the famous music and podcasting app. According to the outlet, Bieber now has the most monthly listeners of any artist in the app’s history.

According to the report, Bieber currently has an astounding 83.3 million monthly listeners, far and away more than any other artist on the platform and a figure that has yet to be surpassed by any other artist in Spotify’s history. The singer was aided significantly by the success of his most recent album, ‘Justice,’ which continues to chart quite high on Spotify.

Indeed, according to a press release from Spotify charts on the most-streamed summer songs worldwide, from May 29 to August 22, 2021, Bieber appeared twice in the top 20 with “STAY,” his duet with The Kid LAROI, as well as “Peaches, ” featuring Daniel Caesar & Giveon. These songs were ranked sixth and thirteenth, respectively.

However, Olivia Rodrigo’s “good 4 u” was crowned “Song of the Summer” and earned the No. 1 place.

As New Musical Express does, it’s important to note that the total number of monthly listeners fluctuates. Bieber is far ahead of The Weeknd, who achieved 74.5 million monthly listeners, and Ed Sheeran, who reached 72.4 million.

His closest contemporary, though, is Ariana Grande. She once surpassed 82 million monthly listeners but has since slipped closer to 60 following the publication of her last album more than a year ago.

Meanwhile, Spotify continues to grow its podcast library, stating last week that Jor Rogan’s “The Joe Rogan Experience” is the most-listened-to podcast on the platform since it launched exclusively on the platform less than a year ago.

A California Mother Fights Off a Mountain Lion with Bare Hands to Save Her 5-Year-Old Son

A mother in the Los Angeles area used her bare hands to beat off a mountain lion that was attacking her 5-year-old son, according to the statement from the California Department of Fish and Wildlife on Thursday.

The animal attacked the youngster when he was in his family’s front yard in Calabasas, the department said Saturday. The boy had suffered wounds to his chest, neck, and head.

According to Captain Patrick Foy, the department spokesperson, the 65-pound mountain lion “dragged him about 45 yards” across the front lawn.

According to the agency, the youngster is now in stable condition and recovering from the traumatic incident.

From inside the house, the boy’s mother heard the noise and hurried outside, where she witnessed the attack, and she “started punching and striking the mountain lion with her bare hands and got him off her son,” Foy added.

“The true hero of this story is his mom because she absolutely saved her son’s life.”

The child’s parents immediately brought him to the hospital, and law enforcement personnel were notified of the animal attack, and a wildlife officer was dispatched to the location.

When the officer came at the residence, he spotted the mountain lion crouching in the bushes with its “ears back and snarling” at him, according to Foy, who described the encounter.

A wildlife officer shot and killed the mountain lion later that day.

“Due to its behavior and proximity to the attack, the warden believed it was likely the attacking lion and to protect public safety shot and killed it on site,” the wildlife department stated. DNA tests eventually established that it was indeed the attacking lion.

Following the shooting of the mountain lion, another appeared and was tranquilized before being relocated to a new site. According to the agency, the mountain lion, who was discovered to be collared and identified to be part of the National Park Service research program, was not involved in the attack and had no known history of attacking humans.
