As per the Augmented reality, Xreal released the latest product in its Air glasses series: Air 2 Ultra, priced at US$699, a new product Shipping will begin in March, and developers can pre-order today.
Key Information
The Air 2 Ultra glasses are more feature-rich than Xreal’s $399 Air 2 that launched late last year, offering full 6 degrees of freedom (6DOF) positional tracking in Xreal’s typical sunglasses style form factor for more than just watching TV or projecting on a screen Play flat-screen games and run immersive AR applications.
Xreal is positioning the Air 2 Ultra as a full-fledged “spatial computing” device, similar to its earlier Light mixed reality device, which also features 6DOF tracking. Like other products in the Air series, the Air 2 Ultra projects a suspended image in front of the user’s eyes, but the glasses add two 3D cameras, one on each side of the glasses, that can map the wearer’s environment and enable special features such as hand-held Department tracking. This allows developers to build apps that blend physical and digital spaces, rather than simply displaying traditional games, apps, or video sources like the Air 2 did.
Air 2 Ultra has a field of view of 52 degrees, which is wider than Air 2’s 46 degrees. It has a single-eye resolution of 1080p, a brightness of 500 nits, and a refresh rate of up to 120Hz. XREAL notes that the Air 2 Ultra has a pixels per degree (PPD) of 42, which is significantly higher than the Quest 3 (25) and “expected to be higher than the Apple Vision Pro.”
It is worth mentioning that these glasses also support the new spatial video format of the iPhone 15 Pro , which means you can shoot spatial videos with your phone and then watch them on the Air 2 Ultra, without the need for the expensive Apple Vision Pro.
Currently, Ultra is not sold to ordinary consumers, but is sold through Xreal’s developer channels. The purpose is to establish an AR application library before a wider release in the future. The new product will be sold in the United States, the United Kingdom, China, Japan, and South Korea. , France, Germany, Italy, Czech Republic and the Netherlands.
