BMW bulletproof electric luxury sedan, the i7 Protection

BMW disclosed its first bulletproof electric sedan this week, the BMW i7 Protection. Since the automaker broadens its emission-free models into new segments.

Remarkably, BMW has been continuously developing protection vehicles for over 45 years. But the BMW i7 Protection spot a new milestone. Following the release of its first electric 7 series, the i7, last April. BMW’s fresh creation goes beyond emission-free luxury travel.

In particular, the BMW i7 Protection is the German automaker’s first all-electric model in the segment. This protection EV comprises an exclusive self-supporting body structure that is made of armor steel. On top of it, some additional features are summed up. This includes armoring for the underbody and roof and armored glass.

BMW’s armored EV offers customized protection from firearms and explosives. The BMW i7 Protection demonstrates class VR9 protection based on the official test eligibility from Germany’s Association of Test Laboratories for Attack-Resistant Materials and Constructions (VPAM).

Bullet Resistant Vehicles Certification

The certification is developed as per the guidelines for Bullet Resistant Vehicles. Enclosing criteria for ballistic resistance along with adhering to the guidelines for Explosive Resistant Vehicles and PAS 300 for blast resistance.

To put it another way, BMW’s electric sedan is bulletproof and protected from explosives. Also, it offers a safeguard from fire having caliber 7.62×54 R ammunition. It is also packed with special armoring on the roof as well as the underbody. While BMW states that its bulletproof electric sedan can protect against drone attacks or hand grenades.

As far as the performance is concerned, it is packed with several components with the brand’s most powerful all-electric model, the BMW i7 M70 xDrive. Packed with two electric motors, the BMW i7 Protection offers a consolidated output of 544 hp and 549 lb-ft maximum torque.

This masterpiece will be produced at BMW Group Plant Dingolfing, Germany. The same is the brand’s biggest production site in Europe. It will make its public presence at the IAA Mobility 2023 in Munich in September, follows by the deliveries in December 2023.
