Britney Spears Memoir, The Woman in Me, Gets October Release Date

Britney Spears sparks $15 million book deal

On October 4th, Britney Spears’ eagerly awaited story will be released by Gallery Books, a subsidiary of Simon & Schuster, after a brutal bidding war among multiple publishing houses.

“A brave and astonishingly moving story about freedom, fame, motherhood, survival, faith, and hope,” is how Gallery has described The Woman in Me – the title of Britney Spears memoir.

The memoir comes after Spears won a 13 year long battle to end that court ordered conservatorship that had been placed on her. In 2021, while in the thick of her court case, Spears told the judge, “I just want my life back.” Spears continued to tour and held her Las Vegas residency, but the conservatorship remained in place, funneling her money to her father, Jamie Spears. She later told the fold that her father forced her to continue working. “I’ve been in shock. I am traumatized,” she stated.

On the book’s webpage, it was touted by Gallery as “Written with remarkable candor and humor, Spears’s groundbreaking book illuminates the enduring power of music and love—and the importance of a woman telling her own story, on her own terms, at last.”

Spears spoke with Variety, saying that the book deal was “record-breaking.” It was reported to be worth $15 million.

The book cover features a photo of Britney from the early aughts, wearing a pair of low rise jeans and holding her arms over her chest.

Gallery’s press release goes on to say that The Woman in Me is “a brave and astonishingly moving story about freedom, fame, motherhood, survival, faith, and hope.” And after receiving many offers to publicly tell her story, on from Oprah herself, Spears says, “I’ve had tons of opportunities… but I’m here to open myself to others and shed a light on it.”
