Britney Spears and Sam Asghari are heading towards divorce, but fortunately for the early 2000s pop superstar, she had an ironclad prenuptial agreement in place.
Spears and Asghari met back in 2016 during the shoot of the former’s music video. Asghari is a personal trainer who quickly caught Britney’s eye. Since their first meeting, things escalated between the couple and they finally announced their relationship in 2017. During that time, Britney was still under the controversial conservatorship of his father, Jamie Spears.
Over the years, Spears and Asghari enjoyed a relationship that was widely publicized on Instagram. But in 2021, Britney made the news again as she fought the conservatorship of her father to finally be free after more than a decade of no control over her life. Asghari supports her all the way. Her fans were also calling out for justice for the popstar, with #FreeBritney trending on Twitter and other social media platforms.
Finally, the courts ruled to free Britney from the conservatorship in 2022. After which, she and her long-time boyfriend finally married in June of the same year. But it seems Britney has learned from her conservatorship issue in the past and had Asghari sign a prenup to keep her financial assets safe if anything untoward happens.
Britney Spears Wanted to Start a Family
Throughout their marriage, sources say that the two had differences in their starting a family. Britney wanted to have a child, maybe because she lost their miracle baby back in May of 2022 when they haven’t tied the knot yet. However, Sam Asghari didn’t want to plunge into fatherhood just yet.
According to sources close to the couple, Britney was “anxious to get started,” while her husband felt that their life was very hectic and he wasn’t ready for a family yet. These differences in how they would like to proceed with their lives together became too great that after only 14 months of marriage, the two announced their separation.
Sources say, “She wants to be a mom again so badly and says Sam’s breaking a promise he made when they first got together. It’s hard to imagine him changing his mind anytime soon.” Just recently, they couldn’t reconcile their differences and Spears is allegedly preparing for a divorce.
This time, she made sure that her $60 million fortune won’t be affected by the divorce. But Britney Spears is not completely heartless towards her long-time partner. The prenup has quite agreeable terms for Asghari. It stipulates a settlement of $1 million for every two years of being together, with a cap of $15 million once they reach 15 years of marriage.
Another important section of the prenup is what happens to their shared home. Asghari won’t be getting anything from it, since he wasn’t listed as an owner. Instead, the property is listed as a Limited Liability Company or an LLC. Asghari also waived any claims to earnings made from Britney’s music career and catalog.
It’s a shame that Britney Spears and Sam Asghari didn’t work out. After all, they braved many challenges together, including Britney’s conservatorship battle.
