In its ongoing quest to refine the user experience, Google has rolled out a new update for Gemini, its virtual phone assistant. The latest enhancement now enables Gemini to initiate Google Maps navigation automatically upon request for directions.
Users can simply command Gemini with phrases like “Navigate to [place]” or “Take me to [x],” prompting the assistant to display a concise summary of the route including duration, distance, and a map overview, along with a link to directions. This feature operates seamlessly within Gemini’s interface, utilizing the Google Maps Extension without redirecting to the conventional Assistant.
Google Maps
Following a brief pause, Gemini swiftly launches Google Maps with the designated route already underway. This eliminates an extra step and enhancing the hands-free navigation experience. This functionality comes as part of the recent updates listed in the Play Store release notes for the Gemini app/icon.
Moreover, the update introduces additional capabilities, including the ability to utilize voice commands for setting reminders and calendar entries, provided the Workspace extension is activated within the Gemini app settings. It’s worth noting that the availability of Workspace extension may vary by country.
Furthermore, the update streamlines voice commands by incorporating auto-submit functionality, eliminating the need to manually hit the ‘send’ button.
Play Music
However, while Gemini continues to evolve, some eagerly anticipated features are still pending. Notably, the ability to command Gemini to “play music” remains elusive. Google hints at forthcoming support for media service providers, including podcasts, news, radio stations, and third-party music providers, affirming ongoing improvements in Gemini’s capabilities.
As users anticipate further refinements, Google’s commitment to enhancing Gemini underscores its dedication to delivering a seamless and efficient virtual assistant experience.
Stay tuned for more updates on Gemini’s evolution and new features.
