Google Pixel Fold failed in the bend test

Google Pixel Fold Durability Test

A popular Youtuber JerryRigEverything shared Google’s Pixel Fold durability test video. During the I/O event in May this year, Google finally unveiled its highly anticipated and first-ever foldable phone named the Google Pixel Fold, the device underwent a durability test and was checked via multiple testing levels. Earlier it was reported that the smartphone has a most durable hinge.

Google Pixel Fold Scratch Test

Zack from JerryRigEverything followed his usual test and conducted a durability test on the Google Pixel Fold to assess the durability of its displays. The outer or cover display started showing scratches when pierced with a level 6 probe while deeper grooves were reported at level 7. For the unversed, it is good since the cover display uses Gorilla Glass Victus on top.

However, the primary foldable display failed to impress, as scratches became visible at just level 2. This suggests that the Pixel Fold uses a plastic display instead of ultra-thin glass (UTG), making it vulnerable to scratches and deeper grooves even from rubbing against it with keys.

Moving on, the device features an authentic aluminium frame, which appears to be legit. The fingerprint scanner located on the power button did sustain scratches, but surprisingly, it continued to function well even after Zack heavily scratched it.

Google Pixel Fold Burn Test

In the burn test, Zack took a lighter to see how the Google Pixel Fold display react to flames. During the process, the inner primary display tends to lay low during the burn test as well.

Google Pixel Fold Bend Test

The Pixel Fold surprisingly folds outward easily, but unfortunately, the screen quickly breaks. The majority of the screen becomes non-functional, leaving only a visible portion on the left. Moreover, when attempting to fold it back, the device fails to restore to its original position as expected after undergoing the bend test.

Result: Bending the Google Pixel Fold resulted in significant damage, with the phone broken from multiple sides.
