San Bernardino County authorities are expected to release more information as soon as tomorrow in regard to the human remains that were found by a group of hikers in the wilderness of Mt. Baldy this past Saturday morning. The area the body was found in is extremely close to where search and rescue teams have been searching for missing actor Julian Sands, 65.

The remains have since been sent to the county coroner for identification and those findings should be released early this week. The sighting was made days after a huge search operation was mounted, with over 80 individuals taking to the mountain and surrounding areas to look for Sands.

Shortly after Julian Sands went missing, two other hikers were found dead in the area due to the harsh conditions. Searches were then put on hold as the risk for avalanches, frostbite, and other dangers grew.

A statement from his family said, “We are deeply grateful to the search teams and coordinators who have worked tirelessly to find Julian.” This is their first statement since the actor went missing back in January while hiking in the Mt. Baldy area on a solo trip.

The actor is best known for his roles in the Oscar-winning film A Room With A View and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, in which he starred with Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara. He also appeared in the beloved tv drama, Smallville alongside Tom Welling and Justin Hartley.

“We continue to hold Julian in our hearts with bright memories of him as a wonderful father, husband, explorer, lover of the natural world and the arts, and as an original and collaborative performer,” his family said.
