Kia EV4 test drive spotted in the US

Kia’s electric crossover appeared in testing in the U.S., this tends to come as the forthcoming EV4. The EV4 is anticipated to be Kia’s entry-level subcompact electric crossover that comes with a starting price tag of under $30,000. The automaker has already revealed its flagship EV9 electric SUV and smaller EV5. Meanwhile, the more compact crossover is already appeared in the testing.

Kia’s EV4 electric car spotted testing

The Kia EV4 was recently seen in South Korea and Europe, featuring a smaller yet boxy design inherited from EV9. However, the whole vehicle has heavy camouflage, but its vertically stacked LED headlights are much easier to recognize. This is very much similar to the Kia’s “Star Map” DRLs.

At the same time, you can also assume other design elements from Kia’s new “Opposites United” design theme. This comprises of full-length LED light bar in the rear along with an updated Kia logo.

Believing on industry news, the price of EV4 is supposed to start below $30,000. It’s more likely to be built on Hyundai’s E-GMP platform, which is used for all-electric Kia and Hyundai models. On the other hand, there are also assumptions of using a 400V platform, that effectively cuts the costs.

According to Sjoerd Knipping, vice president of marketing and product at Kia Europe, as they stated earlier, “Not all cars need 800V tech, so could we use our 400V tech in places? We need to see if the market segments we serve can be with derived platforms, or will there be a new platform?”

Expected Versions

In addition to this, some other speculations are about its versions. The same indicates that Kia will offer two versions: a cheaper (400V) model and a more expensive (800V) version respectively.

However, the new surface images don’t disclose anything further. The automaker is yet to declare that EV5 will make its debut overseas. Since it will be the company’s first EV built in China.

When it comes to the interior, the EV4 is assumed to be housed with a digital cockpit with dual screens, as we have seen in the EV5.
