Madonna spent days in the hospital with severe bacterial infection

Madonna has been in the news a lot lately concerning her dramatic cosmetic surgeries and awards show appearances. But her most recent story is shocking in an entirely different way. On June 24, her manager Guy Oseary revealed that she had been in the ICU for several days battling a “serious bacterial infection”.

Now, just over two weeks later, the star released a statement on social media concerning the health scare.  “My focus now is my health.” She also thanked fans for their “positive energy” and wrote, “I assure you, I’ll be back with you as soon as I can.”

Madonna’s post also revealed how she felt when the incident happened and her plans moving forward.

“Thank you for your positive energy, prayers, and words of healing and encouragement. I have felt your love.

“I’m on the road to recovery and incredibly grateful for all the blessings in my life.

“My first thought when I woke up in the hospital was my children.

“My second thought was that I did not want to disappoint anyone who bought tickets for my tour. I also didn’t want to let down the people who worked tirelessly with me over the last few months to create my show. I hate to disappoint anyone.

“My focus now is my health and getting stronger and I assure you, I’ll be back with you as soon as I can!

“The current plan is to reschedule the North American leg of the tour and to begin in October in Europe.

“I couldn’t be more grateful for your care and support.”

Madonna had planned to kick off a greatest hits tour in Canada on July 15. That tour is being rescheduled. She plans to keep her European tour as scheduled kicking off with four nights at London’s O2 Arena on October 14.

What Happened to Madonna?

The public first heard of the 64-year-old singer’s health condition via an Instagram statement released by her manager Guy Oseary.

“On Saturday, June 24, Madonna developed a serious bacterial infection which led to a several-day stay in the ICU. Her health is improving; however, she is still under medical care.

“A full recovery is expected. At this time, we will need to pause all commitments, which include the tour. We will share more details with you as soon as we have them, including a new start date for the tour and for rescheduled shows.”

Her North American Celebration tour set to kick off on July 15 had to be postponed. It was meant to commemorate her career with hits spanning from her 1983 self-titled debut to today.

According to the media, Madonna was rushed to the hospital after being found unresponsive in New York. She was taken to the hospital and intubated for at least 24 hours before the tube was removed.

What Was Wrong with Madonna?

Madonna has always been private about her health and the latest scare is no exception. It is unclear what type of bacterial infection she had or how she got it.

There are many types of bacterial infections including pertussis, tuberculosis, strep throat, and meningococcal disease. They can be spread in a variety of ways.

You can get them from ticks, fleas, and mosquito bites. You can get them during a surgical procedure due to contaminated surgical equipment. You can also get it by eating certain foods.

Some doctors have weighed in on Madonna’s health scare saying it’s a sign that she needs to slow down. Her family agrees with the sentiment saying the incident serves as a wake-up call to the singer who “believes that she is invincible” and “has been wearing herself thin over the past few months.”

Her family also revealed the severity of the incident saying, “For the past couple of days, no one knew which direction this was going to turn, and her family was preparing for the worst.

“That is why it was kept a secret since Saturday. Everyone believed that we may lose her and that has been the reality of the situation.”

Madonna has been relatively healthy up to now. Her last health scare came in 2020 when she had to have a hip replacement.

Madonna was taken to her New York home in a private ambulance and is “in the clear”.

“Let me be honest with you- I used to be, like, a fitness/workout maniac. You probably know that right? During my (2019 Madame X tour)- I don’t know if you noticed it, but I’m limping a lot- I was in more pain than I’ve ever been in in my life. I’m a bionic woman- I had hip replacement surgery,” she revealed in a 2021 Q&A Special.

The most recent news reveals that Madonna was taken to her New York home in a private ambulance and is “in the clear”. Here’s hoping her health continues to hold up.
