Microsoft confirms that Edge browser update will cause the Copilot application issue

According to some users, the “Microsoft Copilot” application was automatically installed after a system update. Microsoft has now confirmed that this is a bug.

Microsoft confirms that Edge browser update

Microsoft officials stated that updates to the Edge browser (123.0.2420.65) released after March 28 may incorrectly install a software package (MSIX) called “Microsoft chat provider for Copilot in Windows” on Windows devices, but this program No code or processes are executed, and device and environmental data is not obtained, analyzed, or transmitted.

According to reports, this software package is designed to prepare for some Windows devices that plan to support Copilot in the future, but it does not apply to all devices, so this is a bug.

Microsoft explained that this issue will only cause the “Microsoft Copilot” application to be displayed in the system’s installed applications list, but this component will not fully install or enable “Microsoft Copilot”.

To address this issue, Microsoft will remove the corresponding program on devices that do not intend to enable or install “Microsoft Copilot” in subsequent updates, including most Windows Server devices.
