Microsoft patents a Foldable Phone with 360-degree Hinge

In 2019, Microsoft officially introduced its first-ever Android phone which made people very excited by introducing its new device. It was special because it could fold in half. This phone was called the Surface Duo, and it was Microsoft’s way of getting back into the smartphone market. Sadly, it didn’t do well for obvious reasons. The same thing happened with the Surface Duo 2.

Now, according to the new information, Microsoft is looking to bring back the Surface Duo, but with a twist. This time, they want to make a smartphone that can fold in a different way.

This is a big deal for two reasons. First, most foldable smartphones fold inwards, like the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and the Google Pixel Fold. There’s also a new one called the Honor V Purse that folds outwards. But so far, there’s no phone that can do both.

According to the patent document, Microsoft filed it with the World Intellectual Property Organization and the company is working on a new device that will move a 360-degree hinge to bend a flexible OLED display both inwards and outwards. The Silicon Valley giant is describing this tech as the “display frame translation mechanism.”
