Microsoft to bring Windows 11 version 24H2, not 12

Microsoft News

Microsoft has now officially confirmed that it won’t bring Windows 12 as the major upgrade. Instead of that the company will bring Windows 11 version 24H2 and it will come with some experiences powered by artificial intelligence (AI).

The announcement was made via the latest Windows Insider Blog post about the new Preview Build. The confirmation has essentially debunked all the speculations about the next Windows update being Windows 12.

The post reveals Windows 11 will continue with the annual feature update cadence. It added, “Starting with Build 26-xx today, Windows Insiders in the Canary and Dev Channels will see the versioning updated under Settings > System > About (and winver) to version 24H2.”

Windows 11 version 24H2 Feature Update

Windows 11 version 24H2 will follow the latest trend, it means you will get the next-gen AI experiences. The exact details of these AI experiences are unknown, but more details should be made available in the coming months. Microsoft’s decision to bet heavily on AI is a natural choice considering this is seen as the next major frontier in the world of technology.

AI gives Microsoft an edge over rivals such as Google, which have dominated the search and internet business for decades. Meanwhile, Google itself has rebranded Bard AI to Gemini and introduced a paid plan last week, which is widely seen as a response to Microsoft and OpenAI’s AI ambitions.

The next major Windows update is expected to arrive during the second half of the year. If we talk about the latest Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26052, it introduces sudo command support for command-line users. The team has added hearing aid improvements and the ability to test mic audio in different processing modes.

“Starting with Build 26-xx today, Windows Insiders in the Canary and Dev Channels will see the versioning updated under Settings > System > About (and winver) to version 24H2. This denotes that Windows 11, version 24H2 will be this year’s annual feature update. As mentioned here, Windows 11 will have an annual feature update cadence that releases in the second half of the calendar year,” the company said.
