OPPO and Nokia Sign Agreement for 5G Patent

OPPO and Nokia officially signed a new agreement for cross-licensing. Both companies will now work together to bring 5G-enabled smartphones across the world, where OPPO will be able to equip its devices with Nokia’s patented network technologies. The new agreement will solve the issue, and OPPO is expected to resume its sales in the EU region soon.

New Agreement

The new agreement between these companies will be valid globally, hence there won’t be any other further disputes over the same. While settling the matter amicably, Feng Ying, the Chief of Intellectual Property at OPPO said that both companies have immense mutual respect. Both parties will now have a long-term approach to serving their customers with the best services.

However, OPPO and Nokia were having some disagreements over the royalty fees, which are charged for the usage of these services.

The matter was also taken to court, after which OPPO was asked to stop selling its smartphones in countries like Germany. However, this move was hurting both OPPO and Nokia and hence they decided to settle the matter.

OPPO’s smartphone division in India was unaffected by these issues, as the restrictions were mainly in the EU region. As the root cause of the problem has now been solved, OPPO and Nokia will not have any issues in expanding their businesses globally for 5G and other telecommunication services.
