An Oregon driver was pulled over after tossing about $200,000 out of his car window “to bless others.”

38-year-old Colin Davis McCarthy was throwing the bills out of his car window on Interstate 5 in Eugene, OR causing other drivers to slow down and collect it.

State troopers were worried that people pulling over to collect cash in the dark would cause an accident and pulled the driver over. He stated he was “doing well and wanted to bless others with gifts of money”.

He spread around an estimated $200,000 which he accessed by emptying his family’s bank account, much to their chagrin.

The family is saying his decision to give the money away left them broke. They are asking anyone who picked up the money to return it to them.

Police say they are unable to help the family because McCarthy’s name is on the account. “Because its’ shared, they both have equal interests in the money,” said Oregon State Police Lt. Jim Andrews.

McCarthy is not facing penalties, but troopers were considering charging him with reckless endangerment and disorderly conduct.

“He could have been charged in a situation like this for danger being created because of his actions- disorderly conduct, potentially reckless endangering, but most likely disorderly conduct,” Andrews said.
