Volkswagen cut ID.4 prices in China

As shown in its recent promotion, Volkswagen’s joint venture in China, FAW-VW, has significantly reduced prices on the ID.4. The electric SUV now comes at 145,900 yuan.

ID.4 prices cuts in China

By the time when Volkswagen introduced the ID.4 in China in January 2021. It launched with a price tag of 193,900 yuan. In addition to the info, the German automaker runs a business in the country with two joint ventures, namely – SAIC-VW and FAW-VW. The business collaboration sells two versions of Volkswagen’s ID.4 and ID.6 electric models respectively.

Also, whenever the automaker launches a new model, both JVs will tend to produce it in China with distinct model names. To be more specific, the FAW-VW produces the ID.4 CROZZ and ID.6 CROZZ, and SAIC-VW sells the ID.4 X and ID.6 X respectively. They also recently came up with the ID.Next (SAIC-VW) and ID.7 Vizzion (FAW-VW) electric sedans.

Volkswagen’s JV with FAW declared the ID.4 price cuts in China. And with this act, the world’s largest EV market is heating up with emerging new competition along with pricing pressure.

ID.4 variants and range

Based on Volkswagen’s MEB platform, the model comes in two variants, which are RWD and four-wheel drive. While the ID.4 Crozz is impressively offered 425 km, 554 km, 600 km, and 442 km CLTC range options.

The strategic move came to evolve after VW-SAIC drastically reduced the prices of the ID.3 electric car at the beginning of July. The “historically low price” offer begins at 125,900 yuan, which comes to around $17,500. Notably, this is down by 16% from its original price.

Ahead of this month, Volkswagen disclosed the ID.3 collectively got 10,000 orders followed by its pricing promotion. This results in ID.3 sales peaks from 1,819 units in June to 7,378 in July.

The ID.4 deal is much more similar to the ID.3 promotion. The automaker makes this offer eligible for 3,000 vehicles only, but probably, it will likely be extended. As per VW, it would cap the ID.3 deal at the first 7,000 but left it run until over 17,000 units were sold.
