Volkswagen ID.3 gained over 10,000 orders with a price cut in China

Volkswagen, a German automaker has significantly seen more orders in China. The company achieved this boost in orders by doing price cuts. While this increase in order flow is specifically related to its smallest electric car which is Volkswagen’s ID.3.

Volkswagen’s associated in the form of a joint venture with SAIC (VW-SAIC). While the company bring a new limited-time offer on the VW ID.3 in China earlier last month.

This limited-time offer seems to be the low price offer in history so far. The offers started at 125,900 yuan (roughly $17,500), which remains until the end of the month. Also, the move initiated by the company, which has a substantial hold over the China auto industry, faces a reduction in their numbers as the market route towards electric vehicles.

BYD, the biggest EV maker in China, exceed Volkswagen in respective passenger car sales in the first three months of the year. While also extending its lead through the first two quarters of the year.

At VW’s general meeting in May, shareholders questioned the automaker’s plans in order to keep raising with increases in EV makers in China including big players like BYD and Tesla.

In addition to this, the CEO of Volkswagen Group, Oliver Blume, revealed that the company would win back market share by associating with local partners to develop EVs designed specifically for Chinese buyers. Moving ahead, VW is investing EUR 1 billion to build a new business and development center, “100%Tech&Co,” this is intended to speed up EV development by 30%.

The price cuts strategy is working as of now to create demand, with SAIC-VW. And this records ID.3 to orders exceeded 10,000 last month. The ID.3 or the “electric hot hatch,” as VW calls it, is based on the automaker MEB platform. Also, it offers a potential range of 450 km (279 mi) CLTC along with a 57.3 kWh battery pack. In particular, this is absolutely a rear motor supplies up to 170hp  and 310 Nm peak torque respectively.
