Waze has some issues with Android Auto and BMW vehicles

Waze is one of the different navigation services to Google Maps most used and appreciated by users on Android Auto. Google has recently released a new update to its Android Auto Application and the August 2023 update brings version 10.2 but note that it is on the beta stage so it may include bugs.

This time, in reality, the fault does not seem to be Android Auto, but rather the Waze application itself; some owners of BMW vehicles in fact complain of the malfunction of the software in question on their cars. Let’s see the details together.

Waze no longer shows driving directions

This is now the first time Waze and Android Auto together facing problems, earlier several users faced various problems between the two services, but this time the situation is fortunately limited to a small number of vehicles.

Some cars of the BMW brand (and others too) boast the presence of a pop-up display that appears on the windshield instead of a traditional display, the manufacturer allows the software that manages the cars infotainment system, including Android Auto, to integrate with this display to show turn-by-turn directions.

In the last week, reports from some users have appeared on the Android Auto support forum, complaining that Waze was unable to provide the information correctly on the pop-up display of their cars; however, considering that Google Maps works correctly, it can be inferred that the problem lies in the Waze application itself and not in Android Auto.

It seems that Waze, instead of showing all the indications on the pop-up display, simply returns the route calculation, making the display in question of little use. A member of the Android Auto support team also spoke in the aforementioned discussion, stating that the team is investigating the problem to identify the cause and propose a solution to users.
