Quarterback Aaron Rodgers made a big statement on Wednesday, when he went on record on “The Pat McAfee Show” saying that he intends to play for the New York Jets this upcoming season.

Rodgers said he came to the decision on Friday and will not be holding up a trade, which still isn’t finalized. Rodgers remains in talks with both his former team and the Jets as they attempt to work through a potential deal and find their way through a restructuring of his existing contract and pay.

Rodgers went on to say, “I made it clear my intention was to play and to play for the New York Jets, and I haven’t been holding anything up. It’s the compensation that the Packers are trying to get. … The Packers want to move on and have let me know that in so many words.”

The Packers say that they are willing to trade their quarterback, but that there are still issues that require ironing out and negotiations are still in the works.

Rodgers went on what he calls “a four day darkness retreat”, where he felt as though his mind was made up about retiring. But when he came out of it, he had made the decision to continue his football career. In regards to his time with the team, he said “I f—ing love that city. I love that organization and always going to have love for that organization. The facts are right now they want to move on, and now so do I.”

So what’s next for Rodgers? It is the Jets, or will another team who’s expressed interest swoop in and scoop him up?
