What is 5.5G?

5.5G, also known as 5G-A, bridges the gap between current 5G and the future 6G networks. It promises faster download speeds, lesser latency, accurate positioning, and better network reliability.

What’s Next for Xiaomi?

Most smartphones with Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and Dimensity 9300 chips can handle 5.5G. OPPO and Vivo have already announced full 5.5G support for their devices.

Satellite Communication for Cars

Xiaomi’s sights are set on connected cars. A recent patent hints at their interest in vehicle-to-satellite communication, possibly enhancing navigation and emergency response in Xiaomi cars. Consumers eagerly awaits details on whether this will be integrated into future models. Or the company offers the feature as an upgrade for existing ones like the Xiaomi SU7.

The Road Ahead

Geely Holding, a Chinese automaker, recently launched 11 low-earth orbit satellites through its subsidiary Geespace. These satellites integrate communication, navigation, and remote sensing for driverless cars within the “Geely Future Mobility Constellation” network. Geely equips its car models, including the Zeekr 001 FR and Zeekr 007, with built-in satellite communication functionality. This enables precise positioning and connectivity with consumer electronics products. The satellites also provide AI remote sensing capabilities, delivering high-resolution imaging data. Geely aims to orbit 72 satellites by 2025 and plans to reach a total of 240 in the constellation.
