Zooey Deschanel is engaged! The actress and her boyfriend, Jonathan Scott announced their engagement through an Instagram post.
Deschanel wrote, “Forever starts now,” along with a photo of her and her soon-to-be husband, holding up her hand and showing the engagement ring.
Zooey Deschanel rose to fame with her acting in films like 500 Days of Summer with actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt. She also starred in the series New Girl. But she met her future husband much later in life.
In 2019, James Corden invited Zooey Deschanel and her sister Emily to his show for a sibling-themed carpool karaoke. Coincidentally, he also invited Property Brothers star, Jonathan Scott and his brother Drew for the episode. The foursome sang songs like Hit Me, Baby, One More Time, originally by Britney Spears while driving around.
After the episode, Deschanel and Scott got caught up in a whirlwind romance and started dating. “They became friends after and then started talking as friends and realized there was more to it,” according to a source close to the lovers.
Right after dating the two had to brave the pandemic, but it seems the isolation period did wonders for their relationship. Scott said that they grew closer during the pandemic and it jump-started their relationship.
“I think we’ve essentially squeezed the normal equivalent of three years into one year because of isolation. So it’s been pretty great,” Scott said in an interview with USA Today.
Sources close to the couple said that the two bonded over their great love of music. We can imagine since Deschanel herself has a soulful voice and loves to sing.
After the pandemic, unlike other couples, Scott and Deschanel only grew closer together, appearing in public and on social media often. In January 2022, the couple announced a big decision, “We bought a new old home. It’s absolutely beautiful. We found our forever home and we are embarking on this renovation. Our hope is that when it’s done, it stays in the family forever and ever,” Scott said.

In May of 2023, Jonathan said in an interview with ET Canada, “Every now and then somebody asks about that (engagement) and I’m like, ‘Hey, whoa, whoa, pressure. We’ll get there.”
It didn’t take long for the pressure to catch up with the Property Brothers star, however. Scott, Deschanel, and her kids were vacationing in Scotland when Scott finally popped the question. And she said yes!
