Marissa Bergen is an accomplished freelance writer. She has been writing freelance since 2016, but she has enjoyed writing since she was a child. She prefers writing about health, fashion, and entertainment, but she has experience in all fields of writing.

Marissa was born in Brooklyn, New York in the early 70s. She fell in love with writing as a child. She would often contribute to the school newspaper. If there was ever a writing challenge in school, she would be the first to sign up.

When Marissa was a teenager, she became interested in music. She decided to learn to play bass guitar. She soon formed a band with her sister called Sisters Grimm.

The band allowed her to explore her musical creativity, but it was more of a vehicle for her to put her writing to music. People would often say that her songs sounded like poems in lyric form.

Marissa and her sister’s musical adventures led them to move to L.A. They continued doing Sisters Grimm for years. But eventually, Marissa’s sister decided to explore new passions. They broke up the band.

Although the sisters remained close, they went their separate ways. They both got married and Marissa had children, a boy, and a girl.

Marissa devoted years of her life to raising her children. But as they got older, she found she had more time to spend writing. She started a blog called “Glorious Results of a Misspent Youth” (named after a Joan Jett album). She used the blog to write funny poems.

She soon realized that she was once again writing songs that could be put to music.

Meanwhile, her son and daughter had been taking lessons at various rock schools. Her son was 12 and ready to start his band, but he had trouble finding kids his age to play with.

Marissa suggested that they start a family band in the meantime- and The CheeseBergens were born. She had a musical outlet for her poems once again.

Shortly after starting the band, Marissa realized she could make money with her writing skills on Upwork. Since joining, she has written on every subject imaginable. Health, music, fashion, business, finance, real estate, law, and lifestyle are just a few worth naming.

Marissa currently lives in Burbank, CA with her husband, her two children, and her punk rock cats Hades and Persephone. You can catch The CheeseBergens playing shows around the SoCal area.
