Barbie the Movie is here! The highly-anticipated live action adaptation of our favorite doll starring Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling, and other A-listers finally had its world premiere at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles last July 9th. The film was directed by the great Greta Gerwig, who was also responsible for other notable films like Lady Bird and Little Women.
The Shrine Auditorium was decked through and through in Barbie aesthetics, complete with a dreamhouse-like structure, and yes, a pink carpet! Of course the event was graced by big name celebs like Will Ferrell, Simu Liu, America Ferrera, Kate McKinnon, Issa Rae, and many others. Even singers like Billie Eilish didn’t miss out on the pink carpet.
The stars expressed their excitement for the premiere, with Robbie saying that she is stoked to reveal what they have worked on and Gosling stating his pride in being part of the project as the quintessential Ken.
But of course, the Barbie world premiere wouldn’t be complete without our favorite stars dressing up in their best attire to match the pink joyful event. They dusted their Barbie-inspired looks and brought out the pinks, purples, and pastel blues to the event. Margot Robbie herself, came in a black strapless number that was reminiscent of the 1960s Barbie doll. She was escorted by her Ken, Ryan Gosling, in a pale pink suit, very much attuned to the theme.
In addition to the stars in attendance, there was also a large turnout of fans who were excited to see the film. The fans were decked out in their best Barbie-inspired outfits, and they were cheering and chanting for the stars as they arrived on the red carpet.
The Barbie world premiere was flocked by fans as well, who had waited for a long time and was kept excited by the trailers and the teasers of the film. Most wore their Barbie-inspired outfits, ready to cheer on the stars of the show.
Barbie World Premiere Boosts Mattel Stocks
The Barbie world premiere has given a boost to Mattel stocks. Mattel is the creator and owner of the Barbie franchise, including dolls, animated movies, and various other toys tied to the Barbie brand. It was reported that their stock price rose by 6% on July 9th, and with the film’s anticipated July 21st U.S. release of the film, the stock market is on Mattel’s favor.
Based on the reception of fans and critics alike from the Barbie world premiere, this could be a giant success for Mattel. For starters, the film is expected to rake in a large revenue from box office sales. It has also revitalized the Barbie brand and brought it closer to more mature audiences.
The Barbie movie is a major gamble for Mattel. The company has spent a lot for the film budget compared to their expenses in Barbie animated movies. But the reaction to the movie might prove that it has been a worthy gamble for the toy company. It could just be the break Mattel needed to revitalize the Barbie brand.
The movie is set to have its U.S. release on July 21, but the world premiere has had positive reactions from everyone so far. People have high hopes for the Barbie movie. This could be another great adaptation to a well-loved childhood character.
