Did Bianca Censori’s Sheer Outfit Violate The Dress Code?

Bianca Censori’s revealing appearance at the 2025 Grammys sparked debate over whether she violated the event’s official dress code.

Many viewers were shocked when she arrived nearly nude alongside her husband, Kanye West. However, did her outfit break any specific rules?

Kanye West and Bianca Censori attended the Grammys on February 2, marking West’s return to the event’s red carpet after a decade. Their appearance generated immediate attention when Censori, initially covered by a large fur coat, dramatically removed it. She posed for photographers wearing only a sheer dress with no bra or underwear.

The couple seemed to be recreating the artwork from West’s album Vulture 1, which features a woman in a thong and thigh-high boots facing away from the camera. Their choice to reference the cover in such a public setting intensified the conversation surrounding Censori’s outfit.

West and Censori did not stay for the actual ceremony.

Following their red carpet moment, West quickly left the event in his car. Reports suggested the couple was asked to leave, though no official confirmation has been provided. Their brief presence still caused a stir among attendees and viewers alike.

Some critics argued that Censori’s attire was inappropriate for a televised event. They expressed concerns about the impact of her revealing outfit, especially on young viewers. A widely circulated photograph captured a child watching Censori pose, fueling discussions about the appropriateness of her attire in a public setting.

CBS has previously issued a “Standard and Practice Wardrobe Advisory” outlining clothing guidelines for televised events. The advisory, last shared in 2013 by Deadline, states that attire must align with network policies regarding on-camera appearances. Censori’s outfit may have violated several of these rules.

The guidelines specifically prohibit the exposure of buttocks and female breasts, requiring that these areas be adequately covered.

Clothing that is sheer or see-through is discouraged if it reveals nipples. The advisory also states that the under-curves of the buttocks, as well as the buttock crack, must not be visible.

Additionally, the guidelines warn against garments that could result in “puffy” bare skin exposure around the genital region. Thong-style outfits and clothing that reveal the under-curvature or sides of the breasts are explicitly listed as problematic. These rules aim to prevent inappropriate content from appearing on television.

The dress code has not been widely discussed since its release 12 years ago. It remains unclear whether CBS still actively enforces these specific wardrobe policies. However, the controversy surrounding Censori’s outfit has reignited conversations about public decency standards on live television.

According to Daily Mail, Grammy organizers reacted swiftly once Censori’s outfit was revealed. A source stated that officials alerted West’s team minutes after she appeared on the red carpet. Organizers reportedly informed them they needed to leave, as airing such an outfit on live television could cause significant issues for the network.

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) enforces strict regulations regarding televised content. According to its website, last updated on January 13, 2021, obscene material is prohibited on cable, satellite, and broadcast TV. Since CBS broadcasted the event, airing Censori’s near-nudity could have led to potential violations.

Beyond the Grammys’ dress code, Censori’s outfit may have conflicted with California’s public indecency laws.

Under state law, indecent exposure occurs when someone intentionally displays their genitals or naked body in a way that could offend or annoy others. However, no legal action has been taken against Censori.

Neither the Recording Academy, which hosts the Grammys, nor CBS has commented on the incident. West and Censori’s representatives have also remained silent on the matter. Media outlets have reached out to Grammy officials for clarification regarding a current dress code but have yet to receive a response.
