Honda hints about its new electric sports car coming at the end of this year

Japanese automaker Honda is giving some hints about its new electric sports car. This is expected to launch later this year in honor occasion of its 75th anniversary. As per the report coming from the British automotive magazine Car, it is being revealed from the industry insider in reference to S2000. The same hint about an electric sports car that going to debut later this year.

The upcoming electric car will ride on Honda’s new e:n electric platform. This was showcased by the automaker at the beginning of this year in the e: Ny1 SUV in Germany.

Honda disclosed that the platform is deliberately designed with a low center of gravity as well as underfloor aerodynamics for a “fun and confidence-inspired” driving experience. In particular, this factor translates over to an EV sports car.

On the other hand, the automaker also plans to come with 30 EV models globally by 2030. This comprises at least electric sportscars, a specialty, and a flagship model respectively.

In addition to this, the model includes one that will be an NSX (An Acura model in North America), and the other will be a new GT. However, the new model could also be a Type R. This makes it the only non-FWD car to feature the badge since the NSX Type R.

Kotaro Yamamoto, Honda technical consultant, teased the idea, telling Car:

Type R stands for racing. It’s pleasure transported. An electric car can deliver this, and a Type R is not obliged to use a combustion engine. Even in a fully electric society, there will still be Type Rs delivering ultimate driving pleasure.

Even though Honda didn’t disclose much other than this. While one thing we can expect from this vehicle is its premium price tag. Rebecca Adamson, Head of Automobiles for Honda UK, stated that: “While we cannot compete with Chinese manufacturers on price, we have 75 years of engineering experience.”
