Lamborghini to introduce its first electric 2+2 Grand Tourer in 2028

Lamborghini revealed in May 2021 that they are working on the process to come up with their inaugural electric car. This has been scheduled for release in 2028. The famous Italian supercar maker has said that the vehicle will be a 2+2 grand tourer. Also, this has been exclusively available as an electric vehicle (EV). Although, the brand has not communicated the accurate details with respect to this upcoming pure electric grand tourer.

As per Lamborghini CEO Stephen Winkelmann. The company’s first-ever complete electric car will feature a higher ground clearance with respect to their ongoing traditional sports cars. The information has been reported by HT Auto.

As reported by the publication, he also clarified further details that the ground clearance would be lower than those of the Lamborghini Urus SUV. Winkelmann highlighted that the forthcoming electric vehicle will be specifically designed for daily usability. This variant efficiently surpasses the practicality of models including Huracan and Revuelto. In spite of increased ground clearance, he claimed that the car will not fall into the crossover segment.

The Electric car will be based on the shared platform

On the other, when it comes to more specific details of the forthcoming Lamborghini electric car then that has not been cleared at this point in time. As hinted by the CEO than it comes to notice that the vehicle will not be built on an exclusive all-Lamborghini platform. Rather the electric car will leverage the teamwork within the Volkswagen Group. Notably, the approach is very similar to how the Lamborghini Urus shares its mechanical components with other models within the group. This would comprise the Bentley Bentayga, Porsche Cayenne, Audi Q7, Audi Q8, and Volkswagen Touareg.

Among the global emphasis on electrical powertrains, Lamborghini also deliberately utilizes its resources for greener powertrains technology. The brand’s flagship model, the Reveulto, already encompasses a PHEV setup that focused on a new V12 engine.

As per Winkelmann’s opinion, Lamborghini think to introduce plugin hybrid powertrains for the Urus S/Performante and the Huracan replacement in 2024. In addition to this, the Urus next in line is already planned to come in 2029 as an all-electric car.
