Meghan Markle is set to join her husband Prince Harry at the forthcoming Invictus Games in September, as confirmed by a spokesperson for the couple.
While Meghan Markle is expected to miss the opening ceremony, she will later join Prince Harry during the event.
Founded by Prince Harry in 2014, the Invictus Games serves as a platform for wounded military personnel and veterans to partake in sports. This year’s event will be hosted in Düsseldorf, Germany, and will span eight days starting from September 9.
Renowned royal commentator Omid Scobie shared in a tweet on August 24th that a representative for the couple affirmed their enthusiasm for attending the event.
Scobie stated, “A spokesperson confirms that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are ‘delighted to be attending’ the Invictus Games 2023 in Düsseldorf next month. Harry will be there from the start and Meghan will join him later on in the competition. They’ll both be at the closing ceremony.”
Meghan Markle has historically accompanied her husband to the Invictus Games after making her debut appearance at the event in 2017.
In a coinciding development, Netflix is gearing up to release “Heart of Invictus,” a series spotlighting participants of the 2022 Invictus Games, scheduled for August 30th.
Before the sports event’s commencement on September 9th, Prince Harry will participate in a UK-based awards ceremony. During this event, he will deliver a speech on behalf of the charity WellChild, an organization he has supported for 15 years. This commitment remains one of the few patronages he retained following his and the Duchess of Sussex’s transition away from senior royal roles in 2020.
As the games approach, Meghan Markle is anticipated to travel directly from California to Germany, sidestepping her husband’s UK visit.
Coincidentally, Prince Harry’s trip aligns with the first anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s passing, where he will attend the WellChild awards ceremony on September 7th.
Notably, Harry’s interactions with his family have been sporadic, with his recent public appearances showing minimal engagement with royal relatives.
