Senate Building on Lockdown as Capitol Police Investigate Reports of Active Shooter

Law enforcement officials have reported that Capitol Police have locked down and evacuated the Russell Senate Office Building after receiving calls of a possible active shooter, urging those within to shelter in place as they continue their search.

The active shooter reports have not yet been confirmed and Capitol Police officers continue to search the area for any danger.

U.S. Capitol Police tweeted that their officers were searching in and around a Senate office building in response to “a concerning 911 call.”

“Please stay away from the area as we are still investigating,” they tweeted. “We will continue to communicate with the public here.”

A spokesperson for Washington, D.C.’s Metropolitan Police Department has stated that “No injuries and no shooter were located.”
