Sophie Turner, The Queen in the North, isn’t taking her looming divorce lying down. As Joe Jonas’ camp did their best to paint her as a negligent mother and a party girl (in direct contrast to well-known interviews where Turner had opened up about her mental health and homebody ways), she’s finally hit back – petitioning for custody of their daughters and bringing to light that that Joe has allegedly illegally kept them in the US.
The lawsuit states that Joe Jonas is holding on to his children’s passports, refusing to release them so that they may travel to the UK with their mother.
The court documents, which were filed on Thursday in New York, stated that the couple’s children, who are two and three years old, have been “wrongfully retained” in New York City since Sept. 20. The petition goes on to state that Turner and Jonas had elected to make England their permanent home in April. The couple even made plans to sell their Miami residence and in May moved into a long-term rental in England.
The couple decided that the children would stay in the US as Turner began a new filming schedule in the UK, as Jonas had more spare time before his tour kicked off in July.
The filing went on to say that on August 15th, the couple had an argument and that Jonas went on to file for divorce on September 1st. However, Turner was unaware of this until the news hit the press four days later, and only learned of the impending divorce because of the media.
Since then, Jonas’ camp seems to be on a rampage in an attempt to paint Turner as a bad mother, while Turner has remained silent, only being seen out and about once, with Jonas’ ex-girlfriend, Taylor Swift.
In response to the filing, Jonas’ team has said “Joe and Sophie had a cordial meeting this past Sunday in New York, when Sophie came to New York to be with the kids. They have been with her since that meeting. Joe’s impression of the meeting was that they had reached an understanding that they would work together towards an amicable co-parenting setup.”
“Joe has already disavowed any and all statements purportedly made on his behalf that were disparaging of Sophie. They were made without his approval and are not consistent with his views. His wish is that Sophie reconsider her harsh legal position and move forward in a more constructive and private manner. His only concern is the well-being of his children.”
