The Absentees at the 2024 Met Gala

Rihanna, Blake Lively, Beyoncé, Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift, and Jared Leto disappointed fans by skipping the 2024 Met Gala.

The 2024 Met Gala sparkled with stars from music, entertainment, and fashion at the Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 7. Despite the glamour and notable red-carpet moments, some renowned figures were notably no-shows.

Singer Rihanna, also known as RiRi, is a Met Gala regular, renowned for her unique fashion flair. However, her absence this year surprised many. Reportedly, Rihanna chose to stay home due to flu contracted after her appearance at the Formula 1 race in Miami. Despite hinting at simplicity for her outfit to ‘Extra,’ she was noticeably missing from the event.

Blake, who recently became a mother, opted out of the 2024 Met Gala. After suggesting in 2023 that she would not attend but would watch, Blake posted an Instagram story with the caption “First Monday in May.” Her absence was conspicuous, especially considering her memorable appearance in a color-changing dress at the 2022 Gilded Glamour-themed Met Gala.

Lady Gaga has been absent from the Met Gala since her memorable appearance in 2019, where she surprised onlookers with four entirely different ensembles. Fans eagerly anticipated her presence this year, only to be disappointed.

Singer Taylor Swift skipped the Met Gala this year. People reported that the 14-time Grammy winner is focused on preparing for her eagerly awaited Eras Tour in Europe, which starts this week and runs through the summer. Swift’s last appearance at the Met Gala was in 2016, where she made a memorable impression as a bleach-blonde co-chair.

Jared Leto, despite standing out at past Met Galas, conspicuously skipped this year’s event. Leto disclosed during an interview at the recent iHeartRadio Music Awards that his ongoing tour with his band 30 Seconds to Mars was the reason for his absence. “Back on the road,” Leto explained, acknowledging his non-attendance. “It’s been five years.”
