It seems that the worst fear for Prince Harry were nearly realized last night as he, his wife, and his mother in law, Doria Ragland, were involved in a car chase led by paparazzi after they left an event in which Meghan was being honored.
A spokesperson for the couple announced early this morning that after the group left the Ms. Foundation Woman of Vision award ceremony, they were chased for over two hours by paparazzi in six blacked out SUVs.
The group left the award ceremony in an SUV, but at some point made the switch to a yellow NYC taxi. Details on why the switch was made and whether or not the chase took place while they were in the original SUV should be revealed by local law enforcement soon.
Omid Scobi, popular royal reporter, also divulged some information via twitter, saying “despite being confronted by uniformed police multiple times, the paparazzi’s cars continued their pursuit in trying to follow the Sussexes and Doria to the private residence they were staying at. Traffic violations by the drivers include driving on a sidewalk, going through red lights, reversing down a one way street, driving while photographing, and illegally blocking a moving vehicle.”
Prince Harry and Meghan’s spokesperson went on to say “while being a public figure comes with a level of interest from the public, it should never come at the cost of anyone’s safety.”
The photos from the chase appeared early Wednesday morning in certain British tabloids, but were quickly taken down and the articles removed.
