Have you ever been to one of the coveted Eras Tour concerts? Taylor Swift has been sweeping the world since starting her latest tour featuring songs from all her released albums. The tour is currently on its US leg and the pop star is going around different states giving her music to her loyal fans. The Seattle show, however, is different from the prior concerts.
The Eras Tour made its way to Lumen Field, Seattle, last July 22 and 23. And the Seattle fans showed Taylor just what they were made of. It’s normal for concerts to be noisy and boisterous events. It’s also completely normal for fans to dance to the songs of their favorite artists. What’s not normal is making the Richter scale for all the dancing and singing the night had.
Yes, that’s right, Seattle fans had so much fun they were shaking it off to an earthquake-like 2.3 magnitude scale. The event also set a record with more than 72,000 fans in attendance. This was the biggest crowd the Lumen Field housed for a single event. And with all 72,000 pairs of feet dancing the night away, the earth literally shook.
The shaking was compared to the 2011 earthquake-like shouts of sporting fans when the Seattle Seahawks had a touchdown. However, experts are saying that the Eras Tour beat it significantly. They are saying that the shakes came in waves, to the beat of the songs.
Jackie Caplan-Auerbach, a seismologist, posted graphs on Twitter that recorded the waves on a scale. “The primary difference is the duration of shaking,” she said comparing the Eras Tour and the Seattle Seahawks event. “Cheering after a touchdown lasts for a couple of seconds, but eventually it dies down. It’s much more random than a concert…For Taylor Swift, I collected about 10 hours of data where rhythm controlled the behavior. The music, the speakers, the beat. All that energy can drive into the ground and shake it.”
Chloe Melas, a reporter from CNN in attendance said, “You could literally feel the ground shaking beneath your feet.”
The Power of Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour
Fans lived the song “Shake it Off” during the Seattle Show. But the Eras Tour is now just on the US leg, but it has been trending on social media for quite some time. Fans around the world are excited for when the tour finally embarks on different countries.
Tickets for the concerts are selling like hotcakes. The limited number of seats launched fans into a frenzy to secure one. Taylor Swift’s power and influence show how music can unite the whole world.
