7 Things to Do to Kick Off the Fall Season

As the summer sun begins to wane, the arrival of fall brings with it a crispness in the air, vibrant foliage, and a whole boat of load of nostalgic vibes (come on, I can’t be the only one who feels like fall is insanely nostalgic). It’s the perfect time to embrace change and welcome the autumnal season with open arms.

Here are seven delightfully chill activities to kick off the fall season in style:

1. Leaf Peeping. On a budget this fall? No worries! One of the most iconic aspects of fall is the breathtaking change in foliage. Take a scenic drive or hike through your local park or forest to witness the kaleidoscope of colors as the leaves turn. Don’t forget to capture all that beauty with your camera!

2. Pumpkin Picking. A the self titled Queen of Nostalgia, this is a favorite of mine. Visit a pumpkin patch to handpick the perfect gourd for carving or decorating (and don’t forget to bake the seeds). This quintessential autumn activity is not only fun but also provides you with a snack that feels just plain wrong to eat at any other time of year.

3. Fall Decor. Any excuse to decorate is fine by me. Transform your home into the coziest spot you’ll hibernate in all year by decorating with fall-themed items. Consider adding warm-toned throw blankets, scented candles, and decorative gourds (or ghosts) to create the perfect vibes for movie night.

4. Apple Picking. Another nostalgic fave. Visit an orchard and pick your own apples. Not only is it a fun activity to do with friends or family, but you can also go nuts in the kitchen and use your freshly picked apples to make pies, crisps, or simply enjoy them as a snack.

5. Fall Baking. Remember the above mentioned apples? Here’s where they come into play. Experiment with autumn-inspired recipes that incorporate seasonal ingredients like cinnamon, nutmeg, and pumpkin. Bake apple pies, pumpkin bread, or sweet potato casserole (a very underrated dish) to savor the flavors of fall.

6. Cozy Up with Books and Movies. Autumn is the perfect time to curl up with a good mood-setting book or watch classic movies. Create a reading nook or movie night setup complete with blankets, cider, and snacks for the ultimate fall experience.

7. Outdoor Adventures. Sometimes we have to leave our cozy autumn cave and, you know, go outside. Embrace the impending cooler weather with outdoor activities like hiking, camping, or biking. The crisp air and beautiful scenery make fall an ideal season for playing outside.
