Earlier this year, former vice president Mike Pence was issued a subpoena to testify about the events of the Jan. 6 insurrection. His testimony was given behind closed doors, where he was questioned for six hours.
He appeared just hours after an attempt by lawyers for former president Trump was rejected by the courts in an attempt to stop him from testifying.
Pence’s lawyer’s had also been unsuccessful in stopping the subpoena, trying to claim that because he was the vice president at the time that he had congressional immunity. Though he can certainly be considered a reluctant witness, Pence said in an interview with CBS, “We’ll obey the law, we’ll tell the truth.”
The investigation has been gathering evidence about whether or not Trump and his team broke federal law when they attempted to fight the result of the 2020 election, claiming that Joe Biden did not actually win the election. It is also investigating the US Capitol riot that took place on January 6th, 2021, when Trump’s supporters stormed the building in an effort to stop the certification of the election results.
