America’s tennis star Coco Gauff has plans to get back in on the action at the China Open later this month.
The 19-year-old sensation has recently nabbed her first Grand Slam title after beating Aryna Sabalenka in the final with a score of 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 in New York.
After a short break following her victory, Gauff is now headed to play in the China Open. As soon as she wraps that up, she’ll head to the WTA Finals, slated to be played in Cancun, Mexico as well as taking part in the Billie Jean King Cup.
Her recent triumph at the Flashing Meadows was the most recent display of her athleticism, especially after the Wimbledon 2023 debacle where she was bumped after losing in the first round to Sofia Kenin from the US with a score of 6-4, 4-6, 6-2.
Following that, Guaff won the Citi Open after defeating Greece’s Maria Sakkari in the final with a score of 6-2, 6-3.
Andy Roddick, former world champion, said this is just the beginning for Guaff, as her career gains forward momentum.
“There are dominant forces in women’s tennis, but I don’t think three players are going to win 66 of the next however many Slams, so there’s a much better runway for her. With different women’s winners at the four Slams this year, there’s an intriguing level of parity,” he said. “It seems to be building towards men’s tennis in the ’80s, where you had a bunch of players with the potential to win a handful, rather than everything resting on one or two people.”Guaff is also taking the athletic fashion industry by storm as she teams up with New Balance for the “Call Me Champion” campaign – which has been in the making, specifically for Guaff, since 2018 when she went pro.
