Some users discovered that an 8KB “Microsoft Copilot” application was automatically installed after a system update. Microsoft later confirmed that this was actually a bug.
Microsoft Edge browser version 124 has fixed the important bug
Microsoft officials stated that updates to the Edge browser (123.0.2420.65) released after March 28 may incorrectly install a software package (MSIX) called “Microsoft chat provider for Copilot in Windows” on Windows devices, but this program No code or processes are executed, and device and environmental data is not obtained, analyzed, or transmitted.
Currently, Microsoft’s latest stable version 124.0.2478.67 has fixed this bug. After the update, the device will automatically delete the “Microsoft chat provider for Copilot in Windows” program from the list of installed applications.
It is worth mentioning that this update seems to only affect Windows Server systems, and Microsoft said that the problem with the Windows consumer version will have to wait for some time to be resolved. Note from IT Home, this bug affects all versions of Win11 and Win10 22H2.
