Google is currently working on the stable version of its new Android 14 version. According to the latest information, the company is about to release a different animated wallpaper for the lock screen and home screen, a function that will apparently only arrive with the first Feature Drop.
Separate live wallpapers on Android 14
Last year Google released the stable version of Android 13 on August 15th, but this year with Android 14 we have to wait a little longer. Beta 5 was released on August 10th, but in the following weeks small but evidently important improvements arrived with betas 5.1 and beta 5.2.
One of the new features announced since the first beta, namely the ability to set a different animated wallpaper on the lock screen and home screen, will take even longer to wait and will not be available with the release in the next few days. In response to a post on the Issue Tracker by a Samsung engineer who asked for clarification on the matter, it was in fact said that the function is available with the ” udc-qpr-dev “: this is Google’s internal development platform for Android 14 QPR1, i.e. the first Pixel Feature Drop expected for December 2023. “ Udc ” stands for “Upside Down Cake” (internal name for Android 14), “ qpr ” for Quarterly Platform Release” and “ dev ” for development branch.
The possibility of setting different animated wallpapers was present and apparently functional with the Android 14 beta 1, but evidently it was not so stable if Google decided to remove it.
