China’s biggest automaker, BYD has launched its Dolphin electric car in Mexico recently, in order to expand the brand in North America. Achieved the rolling of the 500,000th Dolphin EV off the line, the affordable EV seems to be a global powerhouse. Post launching its low-cost Dolphin electric hatchback in the Japanese market to take on Toyota. Now the company is preparing for the North American market.
BYD declared the milestone at its launching event, claiming its “ocean-inspired design and advanced technology” is being praised. The Dolphin is BYD’s fourth EV in the market, joining the Han sedan, Tang SUV, and Yuan Plus electric SUV launched in June.
The Dolphin EV will start at MXN 539,990 with up to 405 km NEDC range. The EV is powered by a 70 kW electric motor and 44.9 kWD BYD Blade battery. This brings “class-leading efficiency” of 11 kWh/ 100 km.
When it comes to dimensions, it is 4,125 mm long, 1,770 mm wide, and 1,570 mm tall. Also, the model is 20 cm smaller than the European variant that debuted in June. The EU version also offers an optional 60.4 kWh battery. The exterior color options comprise gray, pink, and yellow. While, for the interior, buyers can choose from orange, pink, or brown.
BYD Dolphin EV lands in North America
The debut of Dolphin EV in North America, since the automaker seems to be efforting for global conquest. The 500,000th model tends to roll off the assembly line freshly. BYD successfully reached the profits more than doubled in the second quarter. This records the automaker’s second-highest profit behind Q4 2022.
In China, the automaker leading the market, by surpassing Volkswagen. By doing this, it became the nation’s top-selling car maker for the first time earlier this year. The automaker having the greatest advantage is its affordability. It develops the key EV components in-house. This includes batteries and semiconductors, which enable the maker to balance the supply chain.
