Google has officially announced the new Google Play store layout for foldable devices. In its latest Android 14 Beta 4 update, the company added support for Pixel Fold and tablets. Also, the search giant based in Mountain View unveiled an optimized Play Store specifically designed for large-screen devices. Google has implemented four significant changes to enhance navigation, improve the user experience, and ensure better app quality on big Android devices.
As per the information revealed by Google’s official blog post, the new Play Store has been designed to help users get the most out of their tablets, Chromebooks, and foldable. Google confirmed that there are millions of active Android devices that have a large display.
Improved App Listings
Google has made several enhancements to the Play Store to provide users with a better understanding of app quality. Games will now feature video banners on their listing pages, showcasing gameplay for a more informative experience.
Improved App Rankings and Quality
To prioritize apps optimized for large screens, Google has modified the ranking algorithm. Apps adhering to Google’s large-screen app guidelines will now be prominently displayed at the top of search results and the home page.
Simplified Navigation
Google has now provided an easy way to navigate the Play Store, making it more user-friendly on large screens. The navigation bar is now located on the left side, accessible with the thumb in landscape mode, featuring options like Games, Apps, Books, and Kids.
Moreover, the Categories and Top Charts section has been moved to the Apps and Games home, simplifying app discovery. The Kids section now takes precedence on tablets, acknowledging their primary use by children of all ages.
Split-Screen for Search
For a more efficient search experience, Google has introduced a split-screen search feature that displays search results and app listing pages side by side.
These changes are set to roll out to all large-screen Android devices in the coming weeks. Google promises more updates in the future to further enhance the app and game experience on foldable phones and tablets.
